The lesbian vs. transgender conflict

Latte Island has a series of posts about ongoing clashes between transgender activists and lesbian activists. There’s even a video showing a confrontation between the groups during a march.

In the video, lesbian activist Cathy Brennan can be heard telling a gender-modified man that he is “not a woman”. Here are her own words explaining her position regarding men pretending to be women:

… male persons have cross-dressed in order to gain access to sex-segregated spaces with the specific intent to harm females. This has happened. Many times. That’s all we need to know. Where a harm is foreseeable, it is potentially preventable. And if not actually preventable, then at least we can create a public policy against it. That is the purpose of law. Females, in particular, need laws. For example, a restraining order is just a piece of paper that could not possibly protect a body from attack, but we still need laws that prohibit stalking behavior. Similarly, in our UN submission we argue that:

Females require sex-segregated facilities for a number of reasons, chief among them the documented frequency of male sexual violence against females and the uniquely female consequence of unwanted impregnation resulting from this relatively common form of violence. Public policy, therefore, rationally permits sex segregation in certain settings where a reasonable expectation of privacy exists.

As such, we take specific issue with overbroad legislative language and the foreseeable harm to women that can arise from the refusal to make any legal distinction between sex and ‘gender identity’ in the context of sex-segregated spaces. We advocate for legal screening of unfettered male access to sex-segregated female spaces on the basis of a purely self-reported ‘gender identity,’ expression, or appearance. We propose that this be done by requiring medical evidence…

We’re female. Females are 50% of the human population. Our concerns come from a specifically female point of view (not a libertarian or a trans-centered one). Our arguments stress the need for sex-segregated spaces. We believe that females have a right to these spaces, free from males. When cross-dressing males, who have not sought medical treatment and/or who do not intend to transition, demand access to sex-segregated spaces on the vague basis of a feminine ‘gender identity,’ that is an infringement on our rights. So this is not a hate-mongering, ignorant, or disingenuous attempt to deny trans people anything. We seek to protect women’s right to sex-segregated spaces free from non-trans males.

Makes sense to me, but for this she is called “transphobic”. It seems Brennan has committed the unforgivable sin of recognizing valid biological divisions within humanity. For those on the Left, Brennan’s thinking is dangerous. If we accept gender as biological reality, it could be the beginning of a slippery slope where race is also recognized as such.

To Brennan’s point about men posing a threat to the safety of women, blacks pose at least as much of a threat to whites. Therefore…

We’re white. Whites are 70% of America’s population. Our concerns come from a specifically white point of view (not a multicultural or a Hispanic one). Our arguments stress the need for race-segregated spaces. We believe that whites have a right to these spaces, free from people of color. When non-whites, who have not sought medical treatment* and/or who do not intend to transition, demand access to race-segregated spaces on the vague basis of a white ‘race identity,’ that is an infringement on our rights. So this is not a hate-mongering, ignorant, or disingenuous attempt to deny non-whites anything. We seek to protect white’s right to race-segregated spaces free from non-whites.

Perhaps the hostile elite can hold its own when it comes to gender, but long term, it faces an uphill struggle with race. If race is not a biological reality, then a white should be able to paint his skin, get lip implants, learn to swagger and self-identify as “black” so that he can gain easy access to college, promotions and the “ghetto lottery”. By defining race as a “social construct”, there is no reason this cannot be done – especially if it can be done with gender.

If self-identity is considered a valid tool to transcend biological divisions (contrary to Brennan’s position), then all whites can simply self-identify as “black women” and eliminate the gender/race affirmative-action privileged classes altogether. There would be equal access to “black-woman-ness” – and the government jobs that come with it. By denying us this option, the hostile elite is effectively admitting that race is a biological concept.

Their solution, as practiced over the past few decades, is to breed new Americans who are so stupid/brainwashed that they cannot even see the obvious contradiction.

*In theory, it should be possible to mitigate racial differences through surgery and hormone treatment in some cases.

LOL! All is not well in the LGBTQMIALOLPLPLTH community. The “Ts” and the “Ls” are at each other’s throats.

And who could have predicted this? (Answer: Steve Sailer, and everyone else with a brain and a shred of intellectual honesty). These coalitions of the diverse need strong duck tape to be held together, and duck tape gets less sticky over time.

Reminds me of the case last year in the Baltimore McDonald’s in which two black women beat on a “transgendered male” (i.e., a guy in a dress) who used the women’s restroom. They were convicted of assault with a hate crime enhancement.

If the guy hadn’t been transgendered, they wouldn’t have been prosecuted.

That’s it by golly! You’ve hit on the perfect strategy. All whites need to cross-dress. That way, we can also have civil rights!!

      • countenance says:

There is a trend in bigger cities of the school districts opening up “gay” high schools based on the fanciful theory that “gay” students are being harassed.

I think the whole thing is a front for race, just a rose by any other name.

White parent to his white son in the eighth grade: “Pretend you’re gay, so you don’t have to go to school in the blackboard jungle.”

      • destructure says:

It does seem like the only whites with civil rights anymore are gay. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. No, wait. Actually there is something wrong with that. Justice has been politicized and racialized and the more whites are denied civil rights the more they smeared as racists. That goes beyond blaming the victim — it’s demonizing the victim.

Other than that, I actually agree with Brennan’s points that trannies shouldn’t be allowed in women’s facilities due to assaults, etc. Interesting point most people may not be aware of is that the majority of rape in the US is actually committed against men… in prison.

  4. Apopkian says:

It’s always funny when the crazy people turn against each other. Obviously the transgender freak had his… I mean her… civil rights violated.

I used to argue my real point of view with leftist in the past, but now I just pretend to be even more left wing then they are and constantly accuse them of racism for not living in the ghetto.

  5. latteisland says:

The main reason I’ve blogged about this is, I’ve noticed that Auster and so many other right-wing bloggers think the LBGTQBBQ coalition is real and voluntary, instead of a Potemkin coalition imposed from above, on a lot of people who don’t like it. Gay sites ban and delete trans-critical and race-conscious comments from gay, lesbian and bisexual individuals, because such comments show how many people actually dissent.

BTW, transgenderism is ony one manifestation of this mental illness. There are trans-disabled, people who use wheelchairs even though they can walk, otherkin, people who identify with animals, and so on.

Of course real lesbians push back against creepy dudes like Allyson Clarke, the pushy guy in the fedora, because he thinks he’s a lesbian and that any lesbian who doesn’t want to date him because he’s a man, is a bigot. This point of view is so common, it’s an official trans trope: The Cotton Ceiling. Which refers to lesbians’ panties, a barrier that trans-lesbians (dudes in dresses) should work to overcome.

    • Stealth says:

What in the hell persuades people to engage in this sort of nonsense? Have they accomplished so much that cross dressing is simply the final frontier?

    • countenance says:

Steve the Sailer man keeps driving that point home. This “coalition of the diverse” the Democrats have has to be held together with strong duck tape. And guess what: Over time, duck tape loses its stickiness.

If the LGBTQMIALOLPLPLTH community isn’t cohesive and given to infighting, then the whole Democrat Party is one teetering on the brink house of cards.

Yeah, we have our own problems. But I’d rather have our problems than their problems.

      • Stealth says:

I totally disagree. The right is significantly more divided. The differences between the groups comprising our side are far greater than those between the various factions of the left. But let me correct myself: there are no FACTIONS on the left. They think in unison. If there is a revision to leftist ideology, they all get on board. THEIR differences are mere quibbles. That is one of the two factors that I believe doom conservatives to failure.

A conservative, after all, is simply anyone who disagrees with any part of the liberal agenda.

I have heard different (i.e.: The same kind of different from the preceeding), to the effect that males who undergo the full course of biosculpture and hormone treatment (‘Tis impossible to change XY into XX.), are engaging in flight from a gender-identity they consider loathsome. In sum, flight from manhood.

  8. EW says:

I just don‘t understand, why asexual people want to be lumped together with that oversexed gay crowd. I understand that they just want to be left alone?

  9. sabril says:

Let’s see if I have this straight: There are men out there who feel that they are really girls, but are attracted to other girls so they want to date lesbians, i.e. girls who are attracted to other girls.

Here’s the question: Why don’t these men just date other men in the same category? Answer: They don’t want to date something with a penis, just like the lesbians who reject them.

Conclusion 1: It’s reasonable for lesbians to reject men who consider themselves to be girls who like other girls.

Conclusion 2: These men are just straight men who happen to get off on pretending to be girls. And why should that be a surprise? For all the whining of feminists, being a girl carries a lot of advantages, for one thing a huge amount of social and sexual attention.

  10. Yew says:

Race is a social construct is what was taught through the 70s til now, right?

Its changing? Whats the latest theory?

There are ways in which people can be accepted into ethno-cultures they were not born into. That way is a ritual initiation of some sort, like a religious conversion.

  11. Sarah says:

As a right-wing transgender woman, I would like to defend my category (well, some of us at least). The public image of transgender women is horrible, and there is a good reason for that, which I think can be considered an instance of selection bias: not all trans women are “weird” women, but all ordinary trans women go unnoticed so it appears as if all trans women were weird (usually old men in unfashionable dresses or extremely sexualised clothing).
In the trans community there tends to be a fairly sharp divide between these more “visible” trans women and the more “normal” and “invisible” ones. Although the extreme left has hijacked LGBT people, most reasonable trans people are, at least at a subconscious level, aware that the idea that gender is purely a matter of self-identification is complete stupidity.
Now, gender is not exactly on the same level as race: where race is entirely genetic, gender is mostly hormonal, which is why there is a whole array of hormones and hormone-like drugs that can cause fetuses to developed as intersex (neither male nor female, with intermediate or otherwise deformed genitals), while there is no drug as far as I know that causes fetuses to develop as a different race from their parents. There is even a condition, called androgen insensitivity syndrome, that causes XY fetuses to not develop male genitalia; people with this syndrome grow up being indistinguishable from XX women and often only find out in their late puberty as they do not menstruate.
In fact, any trans woman who begins to take hormones of the opposite sex before puberty will develop as any cis (non-trans) woman, and most trans women I know who began taking hormones soon after puberty are very “passable” (i.e. you can’t tell they’re trans), with the exception of being taller than average; luckily for me I’m only 5’4. Might I also point out that the difference in height is due to the fact that bones cannot change shape after puberty, and that trans women who begin hormones before puberty are pretty much the same average height as cis women.
Genes are only relevant for sexual-dimorphism during the first stages of development, when a couple of genes (the most notable being the SRY gene) cause gonads to develop as testicles instead of ovaries and suppress the development of a uterus. Everything else is cause by hormones, from the development of the penis instead of the vagina (caused by dihydrotestosterone) to secondary sexual characters (the voice drop is caused by testosterone, body hair is caused by both testosterone and dihydrotestosterone, breast growth is caused by oestrogens and inhibited by androgens, early bone plates closure resulting in shorter height and smaller features is caused by oestrogens, milk ducts are grown by progesterone, different patterns in fat redistribution are caused and maintained by both androgens and oestrogens, and so on). There have also been studies on trans people that have observed that the brain changes towards male or female patterns when the subjects take male or female hormones. I seem to recall a similar study done with cis men who took anti-androgen as a therapy for prostate cancer, but I may be misremembering.

Although the idea that an old man in a dress would be a woman is questionable at best, I think there is something to be said about the fact that most trans women are not in fact entirely physically male and that we have been accepting intersex people as either male or female for ages. Socially speaking, I don’t think anyone wants someone like Buck Angel using female toilets or competing in female sport teams (gender differences in muscle mass as entirely due to hormones), or a petite woman like me join the army (not only I’d be a most ineffective soldier, but having someone with breasts sleeping in the same barrack as a lot of men wouldn’t exactly work out well…)

Also @sabril: I know a lot of lesbian trans women who are dating other trans women, one of them being me myself.

Regarding Cathy Brennan and her radical feminist friends, I couldn’t care less what they think, as they are completely deranged women who believe that every man is a rapist, which is a position that doesn’t even deserve an educated response.

Disclaimer: grammatical inaccuracies in the text are due to my status as a non-native English speaker.

  12. sabril says:

“I know a lot of lesbian trans women who are dating other trans women, one of them being me myself.’

All things being equal, would you rather date a person with a penis or without?

  13. Sarah says:

“All things being equal, would you rather date a person with a penis or without?”

At the moment I actually feel more comfortable dating someone with a penis as I have one and I wouldn’t like the sense of envy I’d get dating someone without one, but as soon as I get SRS (Sex Reassignment Surgery) that’s probably gonna change.

I agree, a penis is a huge downside in a woman, at least for most lesbians and straight men, there are some lesbians and straight men who actually prefer women with penes for some reason (maybe their brain is half-straight and half-gay, further research is probably required).

I don’t think anyone has an obligation to date me, I just want to be left alone by the government that tries to force me to go through its broken health service that would’ve forced me to go around like a freak wearing a dress when I was still a boy before agreeing to prescribing hormones, that forces me to get a surgery before I can change my legal name, as if my name belonged to the state, so that I’m made to wait at airports because security thinks my passport isn’t mine, I’m made to disclose that I have a penis to the supermarket staff if I want to buy alcohol…
It always baffles me how many trans women are socialists despite having been treated like shit by the government… But then it’s the same with all the islam-loving gays, the western world has become so masochistic…

  14. WDFA says:

What does everyone think about Fallon Fox? Transgender man that fights in the women’s MMA? The lesbian he fought against and in a pool of blood by round 1, her rights aren’t protected. He’s allowed to stay. Apparently, Tamikka, a lesbian declared she doesn’t want transgender “lesbians”. Fallon Fox has been a straight man for 30 years and the transgendered come in to defend him claiming he’s all woman now.
