A group of Danish high school girls is being credited with a possible scientific breakthrough. According to The Daily Dot:
An experiment by a handful of high school students in Denmark has sparked some serious international interest in the scientific community.
Five ninth-grade girls at Hjallerup School in North Jutland, Denmark, noticed they had trouble concentrating after sleeping with their mobile phones at their bedsides. They tried to figure out why. The school obviously doesn’t have the equipment to test human brain waves, so the girls decided to do a more rudimentary experiment.
They placed six trays of garden cress seeds next to Wi-Fi routers that emitted roughly the same microwave radiation as a mobile phone. Then they placed six more trays of seeds in a separate room without routers. The girls controlled both environments for room temperature, sunlight and water.
After 12 days, they found the garden cress seeds in the routerless room had exploded into bushy greenery, while the seeds next to the Wi-Fi routers were brown, shriveled, and even mutated.
It’s not every day that we see schoolgirls making international news through innovative experimentation. They couldn’t have done it without diversity. Here are the girls:
As you can plainly see, some are blonde while others are brunette, and some are tall while others are short. Diversity at its finest!

I would have thought the reason was that the thing rang or beeped or blooped or made noises all night.
I keep mine near me, but in airplane mode. Once in a while I forget and it does make distracting noises. From now on I’m turning it off for the night.
This reminds me of experiments which supposedly showed that plants played classical music thrived whilst the same plants played heavy rock shrivelled. This vineyard near Cape Town believes this theory, its on their website…

I’m sure this is nonsense or even a hoax. There is a widespread wifi/cell phone tower/radiation scare in the germanic countries. It is comparable to the “vaccination causes autism” scare in the US for example. Even respectable public tv stations push this nonsense in Michael Moore style documentaries.
So the girls might be under the impression that claims about wifi causing sleep disorders and inhibiting plant growth are part of established science (only suppressed by evil corporations), or at least nothing out of the ordinary. Plus there is a desperate search for girls as role models for gender gap closing. Combine both and all of a sudden a bunch of good girls who want to advance a just cause a little bit, or bad girls who want to cheat on an assignment might find themselves entangled in a much bigger lie than they intended.
Certainly, it is highly dubious.
It is probably a freak result that can not be repeated. Or maybe a fraud. Or maybe a freak accidental result that is being exploited for fame.
Certainly someone would have noticed if cell towers can double as herbicides, especially as there is a panic regarding cell phone radiation.
And does nobody have a WiFi router near a flower pot? Never happened?
If the plant were 1% smaller, I would doubt it. But they are basically withering, they don’t grow.

Wifi is all over the place, people around the world worry about possible harm inflicted by radio waves, and it takes a bunch of schoolgirls to make a breakthrough in research, that no real scientist has been able to make yet ? With such a ridiculously simple experiment ?

Girls are oppressed by patriarchal stereotypes. The world can’t be saved unless they become the brilliant scientists and engineers that they are deep within, unfortunately sexist male chauvinist pigs keep snatching up from them those jobs and positions which rigthfully belong to females. We need more girls in science. — Check.
Official scientists’ and government-approved research is rubbish. All that powerful people tell you is wrong. There’s no such thing as authoritative research. “Young people” know better than adults. Old farts should just shut up and listen to them. — Check.
